Cat Laws

A Cat Act legislating on the ownership of cats has recently been introduced to Western Australia, and most people are aware of this, but there have also been some changes to the rules on dog ownership also, which have been less widely advertised.

Briefly, cats must be registered with their local council, micro chipped and, unless the owner has a breeding permit, desexed. Similar to the situation in dogs, micro chipping and registration must occur by 6 months age, which allows us to place the microchip while the cat is under anaesthetic for desexing.
