Dog Laws

Amendments to the Dog Act came into force on the 1st November 2013. They deal with nuisance and dangerous behaviour by dogs, remove the need for rehomed and trained greyhounds to wear muzzles in public, but most importantly for the majority of dog owners, make microchipping compulsory. New and rehomed dogs and puppies must be microchipped , the latter by 6 months old. Owners who obtained their dog before November 1st 2013, must have their dog microchipped before November 1st 2015.Registration obviously remains compulsory but desexing is still at the discretion of the owner, in most cases.
