Opening Hours and Out of Hours Emergencies
The practice runs by appointment for all patients, and we can see you any time between 9 am and 6 pm, Monday to Friday. On Saturday mornings we are open between 9 am and 12 midday. Horses can be seen either at the hospital or where they are kept.
Outside of these times we provide an emergency service, which can be contacted on the normal hospital phone number.
After Hours Telephone System
Emergency service can be obtained by phoning our normal number ( 08 97958080). The phone will initially be answered by our in-house answering system which will give two options – Press 1 for equine emergencies, or press 2 for small animal emergencies. Your call will then be diverted direct to the mobile phone of the veterinarian on call for the relevant option. The vet will normally answer the incoming call, but, if he/she is busy tending to a case the call may go to mobile message bank. Please leave a clear message stating at least your name and telephone number so we can call you back as soon as possible.
Please note we share small animal after hours on call duties with Bunbury Vet Clinic. If one of the Bunbury Vet Clinic vets is on call, you will be directed to take your pet to the Bunbury Vet Clinic on Blair St in Bunbury (next door to the car wash on the corner of Blair St and Albert Road). The on call vet will render emergency treatment but if ongoing treatment or hospitalisation is required, the pet will be transferred back to Harradine and Associates on the next normal business day.
Hospital facilities and equipment
The equine area contains stables, with outdoor yards attached, and indoor stocks for standing treatment procedures. It is equipped with videoendoscopy, digital radiography, ultrasound, gas anaesthesia and dental instruments including Powerfloat.
The small animal practice has three consultation rooms, a treatment/preparation area, a dedicated surgery theatre and hospital wards for dogs and cats. The entire hospital has reverse cycle air conditioning, enabling our patients, clients and ourselves to be comfortable all year round. Equipment includes a high quality X-ray machine, state of the art ultrasound, dental and ECG equipment, fibreoptic endoscopes and two autoclaves for surgical instrument sterilization. The Hospital has recently been equipped with a comprehensive in-house laboratory, which allows us to run blood tests and get rapid results whenever we need to, including afterhours and weekends. When staying with us, the animals are housed in ultrahygienic stainless steel cages.
Many of our veterinary surgeons have undertaken additional study in a variety of areas of veterinary science. In addition to general veterinary expertise members of the practice have particular interests and additional experience in alternative therapies, Bowen therapy, orthopaedic surgery, ophthalmology, medicine and birds.
All our nurses are qualified, Certificate IV awarded ( the equivalent of a human registered nurse), or are studying towards this qualification. Our nurses are an excellent source of information and advice on most areas of pet care and health topics, and are happy to share their knowledge at all times. As well as assisting the veterinarians in surgery, and helping to treat and care for our hospitalized patients, they are mainly responsible for running our senior pet and dental focus months, and admitting and discharging our surgical cases, and possibly most importantly, keeping the vets organized!
We stock a wide range of parasite control products for small animals and horses. The range of products can be a bit bewildering, as many do a combination of things and not everyone needs the same , which is where our expert advice and guidance is an advantage over other suppliers. We can also help with shampoos and skin care, dietary supplements and special diets. We are happy to give advice on both normal and special feeding requirements, and stock a range of premium foods, including Advance, Royal Canin and Hills foods, and we are suppliers of “BARF” patties. We also have a small but high quality selection of leads, collars and toys.
Puppy Pre School Classes
Harradine and Associates runs puppy socialisation classes at the hospital on Thursday evenings. The classes are run by our nurse Stephanie, who is a Certificate 4 qualified vet nurse and has a certificate in Animal behaviour and puppy preschool training. The most important part of the classes is for the pups to have FUN whilst also gaining social interaction with other pups and people, but also provide some good basic obedience training. Owners also learn a lot about dog behaviour, training and obedience tips and health care. The classes run for 4 weeks in total, and classes will be run as places fill. Please contact Stephanie at the Hospital for further details.
